Physical fitness
Our fitness staff encourages residents to take part in physical activities that will maintain and improve our physical condition. Our fitness director, on request, will assess a resident's abilities and capabilities and offer a set of classes and/or exercises to follow. A major emphasis is to improve strength and balance. Some group activities, for example, are for improving balance--both in and out of water--and some for strength training. Some are led by our fitness staff and others by knowledgeable residents. Individuals also take part in lap swimming in our indoor pool. Strength building and conditioning equipment in the fitness center is available for use by all. Heron Point has two miles of intertwining walking paths including our Chester River boardwalk. Some participate in a daily walking group; many more walk on their own. Heron Point sidewalks lead directly to the town's sidewalks, and Washington College and downtown are approximately one mile from Heron Point. There are additional fitness facilities in town and at the college. Mental and emotional well-being Our mental and emotional states are equally as important as those of our body. Heron Point takes care to support those needs as well. Heron Point's environment encourages us to stay mentally and emotionally fit; its surroundings, activities, and staff are an integral part of this effort. The staff includes a social worker and a chaplain who provide emotional and spiritual support to residents and their families and friends. They are available for anytime guidance as well as support for more difficult times. Our staff understands that residents' circumstances change, and they are committed to remaining aware of those changes and assessing and recommending appropriate actions. |
